This course focuses on helping content teachers at the secondary school level with their ELL students.
This course focuses on middle school and high school mainstream content classrooms with ELLs in them. Over the length of this 8 week course, content teachers will develop the skills to differentiate a content lesson of their choosing in which all 4 language skills are addressed in ways which will boost language proficiency while providing access to grade level content.

This course is designed for teachers who teach in a completely self-contained classroom or who teach a Core class which includes at least two subject areas. Over the length of this 8 week course, content teachers will develop the skills to differentiate a content lesson of their choosing in which all 4 language skills are addressed in ways which will boost language proficiency while providing access to grade level content. The final project will be a thematic lesson.
The content will provide participants skills and strategies to develop engaging, standards-based lessons to help students enhance curriculum content lessons, project-based learning lesson and presentation of new content for students.
Teachers will: Be able to choose and use a digital camera to take pictures for their class curriculum lessons. Be able use digital storytelling to create differentiated lessons to assist visual learners. Be able to use short videos for lesson presentations or demonstrations to parents. Students will: Be able to use digital storytelling software to present the content of their project-based learning experiences. Be able to use videos to show acquisition of the curriculum content.
The content will provide participants skills and strategies to develop engaging, standards-based lessons to help students improve reading, writing and language skills in the content area.
Introduce the basics of the Inspiration program. Introduction to the Writing process and how it works together with the Inspiration. Export Inspiration documents as HTML files and create hyperlinks along with incorporating custom and animated graphics. Introduction to the Structured Writing techniques of Kathleen McMurdo. Develop lessons to help students who have difficulty thinking in a linear fashion to learn to think in a global or visual manner.

This class is designed for those who have not passed the CTEL Exam. We give extra support for those who are having difficulties with the essay portion of any module of the CTEL examination.
This is class is approved for 2 LAUSD salary points.
College credit is availble for an additional fee.
